The Wailing Wall

To contact us Click HERE

Israel had hoped that Jordan would not join the Arab forces against them in 1967. It was not to be; their artillery opened fire on Israel. Israeli paratroopers fought with small arms in the Old City. They were ordered to use no artilley, which could damage Holy Shrines.

Although Israeli Jews and Christians were barred from both the Wall and Church of the Holy Sepulchre for the twenty years of Jordanian rule, Israel immediately opened access to all. Administrative control of the Temple Mount, upon which sits the Dome of the Rock and the Al Aqsa Mosque, were immediately given to the Jordanian Waqf (Islamic Trust).

The Wailing Wall is the Western Wall of the Mount, which is considered the closest and only remnant of the Second Jewish Temple, and is the holiest site in Judaism. No matter where in the world, all Jews have always prayed facing Jerusalem and the Wall.reprinted from April 2010

Machete Center

Yesterday's news was a juxtaposition between Allentown's hopes and it's reality. While Mayor Pawlowski and other dignitaries were attending yet another ceremony at the Arena Hole, the police department was expending numerous rounds to down a machete wielder, only a couple blocks away. Back at the Hole, one dignitary after another saw the arena as a Transformation of Allentown. If Allentown is to transform, it will be through the Reillyville Office Complex. The arena itself, silent and dormant every day, with only 120 nights of use anticipated, will make no change. The adjacent hotel, repeatedly mentioned by The Morning Call, will be another apartment house. Let us hope that the tenants don't have machetes.

The Hard Streets of Allentown

To contact us Click HERE
I've been bothered by the shooting of Saturnino Perez De La Rosa. It's easy to dismiss him as a machete wielder, as I did earlier today. In reality, he was a father, and a man with mental problems, whose family tried to get him help this week. I'm reluctant to second guess the police who responded to a situation. I will say that for a family trying to get help for a loved one, it must be difficult to accept his death, one day later, by 13 bullets. This aspect of the story, and the picture of the man, was presented this evening by Colin McEvoy, of The Express Times.

Allentown, A Town Without Pity

To contact us Click HERE
One can imagine the anonymous newspaper comments concerning the confrontation between the machete wielder and the police; One more problem removed from Allentown, and worse. The comment sections have never been a bastion of compassion. The tragedy raises some questions about both the perception and priorities of Allentown. I maintain that potential arena patrons are more concerned about machetes and shootings, than which corporation's name is under the ice at the arena. Although about $600 million in new bricks is being planned in center city, every aspect of public and human service has been cut to the bone. By the end of the year, we will virtually have a new police department, without the normal graph curve of experience. Under the infamous hyper-pension contract, half the force ran out the door. Those induced to remain, the top brass, are all exiting this year. Meanwhile, back on the streets, the sociological changes to Allentown have not been kind. Center city continues to be populated by a poor element, in dire need of various services. The Confrontation showed the catch 22 of our current mental health system; Assistance isn't available until after a problem occurs. I believe that the realities of Allentown require new priorities. I'm not motivated by kindness, but by practicality. Both the police and health department will have to become more pro-active about behavioral issues, to protect both the public and private investments in this city.

Eccentric or Incompetent

What's the difference between being eccentric and incompetent? Money. If you're wealthy enough, you're eccentric, as opposed to the poor people, that we call freaking nuts. Last week the valley learned that Linny Fowler, long time patron of many respectable valley organizations, gave some couple over a $million dollars, hundreds of thousands for dental care alone. That couple now faces criminal charges. I suspect that the same lack of discretion was in place for years, and that many worthwhile groups benefited from her deteriorating health and decision making. Don't expect them to be indicted.

Flight crew's unprofessional behavior caused PSA Airlines CRJ-200 runway overrun at Charleston, WV

accident sceneThe U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued its final report on the PSA Airlines CRJ-200 runway overrun at Charleston, WV, in January of this year.  The aircraft (registration N246PS) overran a runway at Yeager Airport (CRW), Charleston, WV, following a rejected takeoff.  The NTSB report attributes the incident to the flight crew's "unprofessional behavior."

The incident flight, operating as US Airways Express Flight 2495, was departing Charleston for Charlotte Douglas International Airport, NC.  After noticing that the flaps were incorrectly configured for takeoff, the crew rejected takeoff at high speed -- well above V1.  The aircraft overran the end of the runway and came to a stop in the engineered materials arresting system (EMAS) in the runway end safety area.

There were no injuries among the three crew members and 31 passengers on board.  The aircraft's flaps, landing gear, and landing gear doors "received minor damage," according to the NTSB.

The NTSB's statement of probable cause is as follows:
(1) The flight crewmembers’ unprofessional behavior, including their nonadherence to sterile cockpit procedures by engaging in nonpertinent conversation, which distracted them from their primary flight-related duties and led to their failure to correctly set and verify the flaps;

(2) the captain’s decision to reconfigure the flaps during the takeoff roll instead of rejecting the takeoff when he first identified the misconfiguration, which resulted in the rejected takeoff beginning when the airplane was about 13 knots above the takeoff decision speed and the subsequent runway overrun; and

(3) the flight crewmembers’ lack of checklist discipline, which contributed to their failure to detect the incorrect flap setting before initiating the takeoff roll.

Contributing to the survivability of this incident was the presence of an engineered materials arresting system beyond the runway end.

A large explosion rocked the international  arrivals hall at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport (DME) earlier today, January 24, 2011.  Local officials say that the blast, which was caused by a suicide bomber, killed at least 35 people and left more than 100 injured.

Amateur video and photos shot on site showed a grisly scene, with bodies and body parts strewn about, and heavy smoke hanging in the air.  ProducerMatthew.com has posted links to several photos from inside the Domodedovo Terminal.

Air traffic at DME was disrupted immediately after the bombing.  Some flights were diverted to Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport, or to St. Petersburg.  Other en route flights returned to their departure cities.

Johann Sebastian Bach's music in America

To contact us Click HERE
Johann Sebastian Bach
The earliest evidence of Johann Sebastian Bach's music in America can be found in the Moravian Archives. In 1823, a Bethlehem musician made copies of one of Bach’s cantatas. It took another Moravian musician to make Bach’s music a part of the musical tradition of Bethlehem, PA. Dr. J. Fred Wolle was visiting Munich in the spring of 1885 and took the opportunity to hear a production of Bach’s St. John Passion. Wolle returned to Bethlehem, determined to bring Bach’s music to life in America. Under his supervision, the Bethlehem Choral Union sang the St. John Passion, on June 5, 1888. It was the first complete rendition of the work in this country. Wolle conducted the first complete performance of Bach’s Mass in B Minor, at the Central Moravian Church in 1900. Due to the historical importance of these accomplishments, the Central Moravian Church earned recognition as a National Landmark of Music.
The Bach Festival moved to the Packer Memorial Church of Lehigh University in 1912. A review in Outlook Magazine of the 1918 Bach Festival described the event. “Mr. Wolle leads without a baton, and his nervous arms and fingers seemed not only to be charged with electricity, but to electrify the whole body of people there, those in the choir seats and those in the pews alike. He made those people not only sing, but think the words as they sang them.”
Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 31, 1685, in Eisenach, Germany. He lived his entire life in Germany. He was born as the youngest and eighth child of Johan Ambrosius Bach and Elisabeth Lammerhirt. Johann Sebastian came from a long line of musicians and composers. He lost both his parents, within the same year, at the age of nine. Johann Sebastian and his brother Johann Jacob went to live with their eldest brother, Johann Christoph, who was organist in Ohrdruf.
At age eighteen, Bach was appointed organist of the Neue Kirche in Arnstadt. His first known compositions were written during the early 1700s. At that time he was courting his second cousin and future wife, Maria Barbara Bach. A new job as organist of the Blasiuskirche in Mühlhausen and a small inheritance allowed them to marry in 1707. In Mühlhausen, Bach began to write cantatas. The cantatas that survived from this period are regarded as masterpieces. The Blasiuskirche suffered a great fire and Bach sought employment 40 miles north in the city of Weimar as organist in the court of Duke Wilhelm Ernst.
While in Weimar, he continued to write cantatas along with compositions for the organ, harpsichord, choral preludes and fugues. Duke Wilhelm Ernst was in a contentious power struggle with another Duke in Weimar, Ernst August. Ignoring politics, Bach wrote compositions for both Dukes, which angered his employer. Duke Wilhelm Ernst had Bach jailed for a month.
Upon leaving jail in 1717, Bach moved his family to Köthen and began his new job as Kapellmeister (director of music) to Prince Leopold von Anhalt-Köthen. During his stay in Köthen, Bach wrote the six Brandenburg Concertos, violin concertos in A Minor, E Major, and the double concert in D Minor, Invention, the French Suites and the English Suites. Bach’s wife, Maria Barbara, died in 1720 after a short illness. Bach married Anna Magdalena Wilcken, a talented soprano, in 1721.
In 1723, Bach became Kapellmeister in the St Thomas School in Leipzig. Beginning in March 1729, Bach assumed the direction of the Collegium Musicum in Leipzig. Bach was always looking for ways to increase his income.  He sold books, music and Silbermann fortepianos. Bach finished his great B Minor Mass in 1749. Bach was practically blind due to cataracts at the end of his life. In 1750, he suffered a stroke. He died on July 28, 1750, probably from diabetes mellitus. During his lifetime, Bach was famous for his organ and harpsichord playing. The high regard for his compositions didn’t occur the 19th century.
During the first two weekends of May, thousands of Bach lovers from across the country arrive in Bethlehem, PA to hear the Bach Choir and Bach Festival Orchestra.

Blog Post from Digital Marketer’s Managing Editor Comments on New eBay Design

Digital Marketer’s innovative blog has posted about eBay and their new redesign that takes a cue from Pinterest.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) October 19, 2012

The most recent blog post from the online marketing company Digital Marketer has been published, and it zooms in on the newest redesign from eBay, the online auction site. DM’s Managing Editor Josh Loposer looks into the new features, which in his eyes are very similar to those of Pinterest, the image-driven social sharing site.

“As you probably noticed,” wrote Loposer, “we recently completed a very image-heavy redesign here on the DM blog. In keeping with the visual revolution, the new layout is very image-heavy…”

The visual revolution that Loposer refers to in the blog post is an online marketing industry term that describes the current trend in web content. Everything is moving towards a more visually-represented avenue, and Loposer acknowledges eBay’s attempt to join the crowd with an image-centric design.

“Clearly,” Loposer wrote, “eBay was in serious need of a more modern, photo-driven look — simply for the purpose of looking cool and relevant on mobile devices. Obviously, that’s hugely important, but it’s really just the bare minimum. And launching a redesign just to meet baseline expectations is a pretty sorry way to allocate resources. Fortunately, eBay has bigger plans that that.”

Information like this is available for instant access on the Digital Marketer blog, where the best of the best online marketing gurus share their ideas on trends and news flowing through the Internet. It’s part of DM’s continuing efforts to keep marketers across the globe up to date on what’s affecting their business on every landscape.

#1 SEO Company in India, Profit by Search, Announces its Reputation Management Services

If a company has online libel & slander then this will definitely hurt sales and online reputation of that company. Do not ignore these complaints as they won't go away on their own. Companies have tried filing rebuttal's but this has caused their complaints to rank even higher on search engines as filing rebuttals increases the keyword density as more fresh content is added to the page.

Miami, FL (PRWEB) October 19, 2012

#1 SEO company of India, Profit By Search has announced its Reputation Management services with a dual strategy approach. At Profit By Search, they have fool proof methods that can save anybody from losing his business and most importantly his reputation to someone who is just jealous of his good work. Various countries have different ways to punish a defamer or a person, who has given a false statement, or libel or slandered against another citizen of the country. This is a punishable offence if the person delivering such statements is proved wrong. In the US, previously it was not a big issue but gradually as people started to take advantage of the situation, the laws were regulated and defamers were awarded with severe punishments if the defamed is able to prove him wrong. There are certain steps to prevent threat to the reputation of a citizen and the person who did a slander can be dragged to the court.

If a company has online libel & slander then this will definitely hurt sales and online reputation of that company. Do not ignore these complains as they won't go away on their own. Companies have tried filing rebuttal's but this has caused their complaints to rank even higher on search engines as filing rebuttals increases the keyword density as more fresh content is added to the page.

“The first step that we normally recommend is to have the victim of internet defamation provide us with the defamatory posts and their explanations why they believe the posting is defamatory. So, the first thing that we do is to identify all of the postings that have become an issue and then, with the assistance of the victim of the internet defamation posts, identify whether the fact is, defamatory. If the post is defamatory by nature, it is not necessary that the post is true, but it casts the victim in a negative light.” said Abhinav Girdhar CEO at Profit By Search.

The solution is not to fight these online libel, slander & defamation Complaints, just find a way past it by pushing these complaints on page 2 or 3 of Google results by Effective Reputation Management Plans. This is one method that has the highest success rate and there are Reputation Management Plans offered by them that will help Victims of online libel, slander & defamation push these Complaints on page 2 or 3 of search engines for sure. In these plans they use a dual strategy approach; the Legal way and by the traditional method of online marketing.

New community grassroots group begins its work with discussion on U.S.-UN relations.

Cupertino, CA (PRWEB) October 20, 2012

The United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) launched its newest Chapter today, the Silicon Valley Chapter, during an event honoring the 67th Year of the United Nations. The event is a discussion on U.S.-UN relations, and is one of more than 170 events in 100 communities led by UNA-USA in cities around the country in celebration of UN Day.

“The launch of the Silicon Valley Chapter gives a strong voice to the UN in the area. Citizens care about the UN's effort to secure peace, promote human rights, build economic prosperity and advance global health,” said Patrick Madden, executive director, UNA-USA. “The UN is a leader in addressing the world’s urgent global conversations and crises, and the Silicon Valley Chapter will play an integral role in telling the UN’s story in its community.”

This year’s national UN Day theme is “Solutions for a Prosperous World.” Over the next two weeks, more than 170 events will take place across the country. Events will feature discussions, presentations, lectures, and festivals conveying the message of how the UN delivers support and relief to all corners of the globe.

In 1947, two years after ratifying the UN Charter, the UN General Assembly adopted a U.S.-sponsored resolution declaring October 24 United Nations Day. Since then, UN Day has been observed in countries large and small around the world. From that time forward, each U.S. president has issued an annual proclamation asking citizens to observe UN Day, and to reflect upon the importance of the UN to America’s national interest.

Why Men Pull Away Review Reveals A New Training Course By Meet Your Sweet

To contact us Click HERE
ConquerHisHeart.com releases a review of Why Men Pull Away, a home training course for women by Slade Shaw, Mirabelle Summers, and the team at Meet Your Sweet intended to help women understand how men really think, and why they pull away without explanation.

Miami, FL (PRWEB) October 20, 2012

"Why Men Pull Away, is a new program that was created to answer many of the big questions women have about why men act the way that they do in relationships," reports ConquerHisHeart.com's Sean Roman. "Women are often blind sided when the men they love begin to retreat emotionally, often bringing about the untimely end to relationships that once seemed strong. The Why Men Pull Away program was created to explain the reasons why this happens, so that it can be stopped."

Why Men Pull Away was created by a collaboration of respected dating and relationship experts from Meet Your Sweet including Slade Shaw, Mirabelle Summers, Amy Waterman, and Andrew Rusbatch. The program which is available online as a digital download, focuses on answering the question of why men pull away and providing a step by step plan for quickly transforming and improving their relationships.

Sean Roman offers this description of the course content in his Why Men Pull Away review:

"The program empowers it's readers by explaining why the men in their life are “pulling away” from them, and the truth is that men pull away for all sorts of reasons," says Roman. "Rather than offering a simplistic explanation, the authors have dug deeply into this topic to expose the root causes. Then, readers are given a bounty of new ways that they can think about, talk to, and relate with their men, to stop them from pulling away and instead draw them closer."

In addition to the main e-book the Why Men Pull Away program comes with two bonus modules, "Communication Secrets For A Strong Long-Term Relationship" with Renee Pianeone, and "How to Reignite & Maintain Long-Term Attraction" with Marie Forleo"s. Both audio modules are accompanied by full written transcripts, and there is also audio content presenting "Interviews With Men" which provides further enlightenment on the male perspective on relationships.

"I was excited to review this program for my readers because this is exactly the sort of material our demographic is starving for," says Roman. "Women are sick of trying to figure out what a guy is thinking, how he really feels, and waiting around to get him to commit to the relationship. They want true intimacy, emotional connection, devotion and answers to these questions that keep them up at night!"

Those wish to gain access to the Why Men Pull Away program, or for further information, click here.

How to get your ex boyfriend back training has been released online for women to use for help. Randy Bennett, LMFT, has released his 20+ year developed training to help women get an ex boyfriend or husband back.

Lincoln, NE (PRWEB) October 20, 2012

How to get your ex boyfriend back is the core of a new training system that has been released by a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Randy Bennett has spent his adult life counseling men and women about relationship issues. Randy’s training has been put into an easy to learn from training course to help women get back a man they have lost. The Melt Your Man’s Heart system is available for download here.

Divorce rates have only declined by a few percentage points according to census data between 1985 and 2000. Getting into relationships is easy for most people. Keeping relationships positive can be hard for others to learn. Scientific research has proven that women have triggers that can be used to convince, nurture or show disgust to a man easily. It is these triggers that form the basis of getting back together with a man according to the Melt Your Man’s Heart training.

“Women that disconnect with a man could lose him forever,” writes Randy Bennett inside of his training system. “I’ve counseled couples for over 20 years and know the problems that happen and how to help women overcome them,” added Bennett.

Women that have yet to marry can still benefit from relationship advice. One of the elements to creative a positive relationship, according to Randy’s training, is effective male communication. Since most women communicate to a man like they do to their friends, men are easily disconnected and can do the opposite of what is asked.

The communication training inside of the Melt Your Man’s Heart system is designed to teach women how to get the upper hand in any male dominated conversation.

According to the training series, women that withhold intimacy from a man can be one of the biggest causes of a breakup. Since Dopamine is released through a man’s body during intimate moments, the relaxation that is generated can be a useful tool for women to use. According to Randy's training course, women that learn how to release this chemical in a man’s body could persuade a man to do whatever is asked.

The Melt Your Man’s Heart training is available as an e-course and is offered with a complete 60-day satisfaction guarantee for all ladies that tryout this new relationship saver training.

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - The owner of Marlon Brando's trademark rights say that Madonna made them an offer that they refused - and now they're suing the "Hard Candy" singer for ignoring their refusal. Brando Enterprises filed suit in U.S. District Court in Central California against Madonna, along with Bhakti Touring, Inc., on Thursday, alleging that the Material Mom has been using the "Apocalypse Now" actor's image on tour without permission - in fact, according to Brando Enterprises, their representatives "expressly refused to grant such rights to the Defendants" when they were ...

Nothampton County's Forgotten Veterans

To contact us Click HERE
Armed Forces Park, Hanover Township
I realize nobody much cares about the 18,000 disadvantaged people who use Northampton County's human services. Most are broken people from broken homes. They don't vote. Most of them are a little more concerned about paying their rent and putting food on the table.

The County calls them "consumers," but they're people. One of them lives next door to me. A little slow, he's unable to drive. But he walks the 6 miles to and from his job at Burger King nearly every day at this time of year, and at all hours, along Route 248. That's the very busy, and pedestrian-unfriendly, Nazareth-Easton highway.

He's the product of a broken family and has been in and out of the system his entire life.

For him, a luxury is a bicycle. Sharon and Ron Angle, who do not know this guy at all, gave me a bike to give to him last year. When the weather is nice, I can see him tooling along 248, with a big smile on his face.

He and his wife, who is also a little slow and unemployed, go to church twice every week. They pay their rent on time.

This fellow and many like him have no one to speak for them at County Council meetings, when the idea of a centralized human services building is being discussed. So it's easy to bash the very idea of caring for our fellow man, as Council member Lamont McClure and Controller Steve Barron have in effect done. mcClure saw Gracedale as a "moral obligation," but is not all that enthusastic bout poor seniors who are trying to service without going into a nursing home.

It's one thing to bash those with no voice. But they are also bashing 24,000 Northampton County veterans.

Between 25-35 veterans visit the Veterans Administration weekly at the Governor Wold Building. That's between 1,300 and 1,820 per year. According to Executive John Stoffa, "Unfortunately, many of them have to chug up that hill to get into the building. With the security, we lock the back, there's no parking in front, and they're all ages. Some come in in wheelchairs, some in oxygen."

For people who put their lives on the line for us, this is a lousy way to say thank you.

Now I realize that one member of Council would like to keep things in Easton because that's his district. Another member of Council would like it in Nazareth because that's where she gets her votes. And McClure and Barron just want to stick it to Stoffa. Unlike Stoffa, they never spent a day in the military.

If we can't do the right thing for those who have no voice, can't we at least take care of our veterans?  They took care of us.

Catrwright on Obama's State of the Union Address

I listened to president Obama's State of the Union address, and believe he's right on the money to suggest that both parties need to work together to restore the middle class. But i'm just a bottom-feeding blogger. Here's what LV Congressman Matt Cartwright has to say:

Tonight, President Obama presented a vision to the American people of a stronger Union, a foundation for prosperity, and a thriving middle class. Working together, we will adopt a bold agenda for our economic growth - founded on good-paying manufacturing jobs, greater access to education, critical investment in our nation’s infrastructure and a future of clean energy.

Despite signs of progress in our economy, too many Americans are out of work and struggling to make ends meet. Sustaining a secure and prosperous middle class is the defining challenge of our time. To rebuild the middle class, we must make America a magnet for good-paying manufacturing jobs, provide access to the skills needed for all Americans to compete in today’s global economy and make sure that hard work produces a good standard of living and long-term financial security.

Education is the greatest investment we can make in our country and is key to rebuilding our middle class. It’s critical that we provide greater access to early childhood education and that we open doors to collegiate opportunities for all Americans. Education is the crown jewel of our nation’s economic infrastructure. We cannot sacrifice our children’s future.

Immediate investment must also be made in improving our nation’s crumbling transportation infrastructure. There is no such thing as a Republican bridge or a Democratic bridge: only the bridge we all travel over together. Investing in our infrastructure, allowing us to compete with countries across the world and providing jobs today, is imperative and is something we can and should all agree on. But, we need to invest in the technologies and economic strategies of the future.

Clean energy creates jobs that you can’t ship overseas, and in turn boosts the economy. We must continue toward becoming fully energy independent and we need to lower energy costs to keep more money in the pockets of middle class families.

Every step along the way, we must demand fiscal discipline - examining all unnecessary spending, but an indiscriminate across-the-board cut is the wrong approach. We can't just cut our way to prosperity or a strong middle class. Both sides need to work together with President Obama to provide a plan for a stable financial future.

With his powerful words tonight, the President demanded that we fulfill our promise to fight for the interests of America's families, rebuild the keystones of progress, and restore opportunity to every American. Working together, we can realize a vision of growth, security and economic success for all Americans.

Johann Sebastian Bach's music in America

Treehugger Kleiner Goes Corporate With LVEDC

Photo stolen from Michael Molovinsky
Not all that long ago, Andrew Kleiner was a blogger who spent all of his time in Allentown's parks, where he'd write about ponds and stuff. Michael Molovinsky and he used to have lengthy online discussions about riparian buffers and bog turtles. Well, Andrew has gone corporate baby. He's sold out to Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp. as a part-time land recycling assistant of the Lehigh Valley Land Recycling Initiative.

The funny thing is he doesn't even golf.

All kidding aside, Andrew is a very nice and sincere young man and deserves this opportunity. It is a credit to LVEDC CEO Don Cunningham to have hired him. He was gonna' hire Michael Molovinsky, but I talked him out of it.

Andrew will now support outreach and marketing efforts for brownfield redevelopment and maintain files on contractors available for assessment and remediation projects and report progress on LVLRI initiatives to various committees.

Kleiner has most recently served as a field biologist for the Acopian Center for Ornithology at Muhlenberg College and as a senior laboratory researcher of environmental chemistry and toxicology for the departments of chemistry and environmental sciences at Muhlenberg College. His related experience includes an appointment to the City of Allentown Environmental Advisory Council and work as an environmental educator and community organizer in Allentown. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from Muhlenberg College and resides in Allentown.

LVLRI focuses on improving the economy and the environment by promoting the remediation of old industrial properties throughout the Lehigh Valley.

Schlossberg: Close the Rapist Support Loophole

To contact us Click HERE
I'm unhappy with the way Mike Schlossberg left his position on Allentown City Council, where he mostly served as a bobble head to Mayor Edwin Pawlowski. An opportunist, he ran for Jenn Mann's seat the second it became available, even though he had just been re-elected. Then he resigned well before he had to, leaving an undemocratic City Council full of appointees as opposed to people actually chosen by the voters. But his early legislative proposals as a State Rpresentative are impressive.

His most recent proposal will end the current practice of forcing a raped woman who bears a child from having to make an unpleasant choice between receiving child support from the rapist or termination of parental rights.

Schlossberg's legislation would require convicted rapists who father a child to pay child support – even if their parental rights are terminated.

“As unbelievable as it sounds, currently in Pennsylvania, rapists can enjoy parental rights as the result of a loophole in the Domestic Relations Law that strips them of child support obligations if those rights are terminated,” Schlossberg said. “No rape victim should be forced to pick between parental rights and child support – and a rapist should be penalized for his crime, not rewarded with parental rights that may further torment his victim.”

In Pennsylvania, termination of parental rights ends the obligation to support the child. Even when those rights are terminated because the father raped the mother.

“This creates a huge injustice for a woman who may be further traumatized by being forced into maintaining even a cursory relationship with her attacker,” Schlossberg said. “The law should punish the rapist, not the woman who courageously bears a child as a result of such a heinous crime.”

Schlossberg said his bill has been drafted and is being circulated in the House of Representatives for co-sponsors before its formal introduction.

“As a legislator, anything I can do to give rape victims more rights is a step in the right direction,” Schlossberg said. “The legislature can do nothing to make a rape victim whole, but we can certainly do more to eliminate a painful choice between getting help with child-rearing costs or reliving a horrific experience.”

Hopefully, there will be strong bi-partisan support for what is undeniably a good piece of legislation.

Hanover Township Supervisors Have a Vision

Holly Edinger
A vision visited Hanover Township Supervisors at their February 12 meeting. It appeared in the form of Holly Edinger, Director of Sustainable Development at Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp. (LVEDC).

What will the Lehigh Valley be like twenty years from now? Will there still be working farms? Will housing be affordable? How long will it take to get to work? What kind of jobs will be available? These and other questions are the question being asked by Edinger for Envision Lehigh Valley, a public outreach effort designed to engage the citizens of the Lehigh Valley to create a truly sustainable Lehigh Valley.

In 2012, Envision Lehigh Valley hosted 30 public meetings, seeking input from the public. Edinger briefed p Supervisors about the program. One of the goal is to create highly livable neighborhoods throughout the Lehigh Valley, where residents can live, work, shop and play without the use of a car. Even in suburbs like Hanover Township.

Mark Tanczos and Glenn Walbert receive a vision
In other business Hanover Supervisors were briefed on the cost of handling a 5" snowstorm like the one that hit on February 8. A storm like that, which required only one application of salt, cost the Township nearly $11,500. About 1/3 of that was the cost of salt. Another $1,100 paid for fuel. The rest is labor for the 15-man crew. This crew includes Township Manager Jay Finnigan and Public Works Director Vince Milite. A 16th person, Supervisor John Diacogiannis, rode shotgun on one of the plows. He called it a "most enjoyable night," and complimented the crew for an "outstanding job" while everyone else is asleep.

Supervisors also signed off on a reduced assessment for property owned by Hanover Glen. Originally intended as condos, the developer is renting out the property as apartment dwellings. "If he sells just one unit, the assessment ges back to what it was before," noted Solicitor James Broughal. "We don't see any downside to it."

Supervisors also re-appointed Danielle McFadden and Joan Rosenthal as co-coordinators to the Township's Crime Watch program. McFadden told Supervisors they will educate residents about the dangers presented by Facebook and other social media outlets.

Supervisors will meet again on February 26, 7 PM, at the Municipal Building, located at 3630 Jacksonville Rd.

Pope J.B. Reilly? Maybe Not

We all know Pope Benedict is calling it a day, and will retire to doing reality TV shows on the Catholic Channel. Who will succeed him? It could be J.B. Reilly. He's already putting on all the Pope bling. The Morning Call got the ball rolling on Sunday, with a 457,000-word profile.

But the paper has gone too far. Instead of Pope, the Vatican intends to declare Reilly a living saint.

The Morning Call's puff piece is Reilly's beatification, but you also need two miracles.

The first is turning state tax revenue into bricks and mortar buildings with no financial risk. Water into wine, sales tax into office space. Amazing.

The Vatican has appointed a Devil's Advocate, dour and misguided Michael Molovinsky. He's calling it alchemy.

The second miracle is turning cigarettes into buildings. JB's right up there with JC.

The third will be turning Allentown's downtown from ethnically diverse to lilly white.

Next thing you know he'll be taking credit for "resurrecting" dead cities. But that would be "Saint Edwin." his wife has already nominated him for sainthood ... and Governor.

There is a fly in the ointment. According to some scurrilous anonymous comment to the Morning Call story, Reilly was buying property in the NIZ before the law was passed. Here's what "IHAVEagirl" says:

"Reilly said he had no discussions with Browne about the law before it was passed and played no role in moving the NIZ downtown" BUUULL! "But records show he didn't buy his first new property until March 2011 — three months after the new downtown NIZ map was adopted, and a week after the city publicly announced it was shifting the arena downtown." EVEN MORE BUUULL!. on December/2009 a sales agreement was already in place on a property on Hamilton st. ...CONTINGENT- that the Arena gets built there. "what Arena?" ask everyone, at the time."

I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

Allentown's Real Riverfront Story

To contact us Click HERE

As readers of The Morning Call are being fed the mayor's version of Transformation at the riverfront, here's the sordid history not revealed elsewhere. In the early 70's, the City and Redevelopment Authority subdivided the Neuweiler property. The actual brewery portion, the front, went to a supposed developer with long time ties to former Mayor Daddona. The rear portion, formerly garages for the Neuweiler trucks, went to a roofer. Under the city's watch, the developer removed windows and exterior walls, braking through to remove the brewing tanks and piping for scrap. All metal, wires and any object of value were crudely ripped out in an orgy of demolition. With a large opening in the back wall smashed out, the basement mysteriously got filled up with roofing debris. Still the building remained iconic, because of it's rich industrial architecture. In 2003, a New Jersey investor bought the building for over $200,000 in the condition shown in the photograph. The building has been in that condition since the late 70's. HIs hope was at some point the City would appreciate the landmark and cooperate in its revival. He must have found the building citations from the Pawlowski administration mind-numbing; Can you imagine being held responsible for carnage committed by a previous owner? Before seizing the property, Pawlowski actually had the hapless new owner jailed when he came to Allentown to discuss the situation. Meanwhile, the roofer was rewarded with an $876,000 buy out. This is how the city reunited the property; Welcome to the Transformation.

Remaining Merchants Pay For Reilly's World

To contact us Click HERE
Pat Browne is confident that 2012 is the only year in which the Arena Authority will have to dip into the base state tax, I'm confident it is not. Browne's excuse for breaking the promise not to use those funds was the delay caused by the lawsuit, filed by the surrounding municipalities not wanting to pay for J.B Reilly's real estate empire. Of course they also were promised that their taxes would be returned. Sy Taub, Authority Chairman, said it stands to reason that during the period of the hole, before revenue starts pouring in from completed construction, that there would be a shortfall. He has more confidence in the pending success of both the Palace of Sport and Reilly's Office World than I do. They used up the taxes of the small merchants this year because the NIZ law allows them to do so. Expect more broken promises and excuses in the coming years.                                                                         commentary based on Morning Call report by Scott Kraus and Matt Assad

The Morning Call Can't Spell Molovinsky

To contact us Click HERE
Out of frustration, J.B. and Kathleen Reilly have stopped reading the political blogs that snidely refer to downtown Allentown as Reillyville or Reillytown, so writes Scott Kraus and Matt Assad in today's feature story. Although a large portion of the article defends against criticism from this blog, including the phrases Reillyville and Reillytown, reporters and editors have once again chosen to not give attribution to molovinsky on allentown. Although perhaps J.B. has stopped reading this blog, I know that Kraus and Assad are reading these words: So boys, here's the biggie you missed today. You forgot to mention that the City gave Reilly $20 million (loaned from National Penn) in seed money, with no specifications, which he used to buy those 32 properties for $15.1 million. I say the City, because the loan was made even before the NIZ Authority was formed. You forgot to mention that some of the owners displaced by Reilly's buying spree felt intimidated, supposedly even including the possibility of eminent domain. Although you keep parroting Pawlowski's premise of risk on Reilly's part, the only real risk was ours. Although you have presented a defense against all the apparent connections, the fact remains that we now have Reillyville.
UPDATE: Kraus and Assad write; records show he(Reilly) didn't buy his first new property until March 2011 — three months after the new downtown NIZ map was adopted, and a week after the city publicly announced it was shifting the arena downtown. Public records refer to deed transfers, but when were the Agreements of Sale signed? Reilly wonders why other developers are not taking advantage of the NIZ.  Perhaps because Reilly has already purchased all the adjoining blocks? Perhaps because they are not assured that their project will be granted the same NIZ Authority approval, necessary for  the tax debt funding, being enjoyed by Reilly?
