Salt Lake Community College will offer access to a degree in Hospitality Management. The program will be offered in a flexible online format beginning Spring Semester 2013.

“We decided to offer this new degree track program as a result of Utah’s increased need for professionals in the Hospitality and Tourism industry due to the growth in the state’s tourism industry,” SLCC associate dean of management, marketing and culinary arts Andreas Fleckenstein said. “Employment in the industry accounts for nearly 10% of the total jobs in the state and is considered one of Utah’s growth industries.”

Students begin entry-level coursework at the College to earn an associate of science or arts degree. A partnership between SLCC and Utah Valley University will provide students the opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree after completing an associates degree from the College. Students can complete bachelor’s level coursework online while working in the industry.

The hospitality degree has a business management focus, preparing students for management positions in hotels, resorts, convention centers, gaming facilities and restaurants. All students are required to complete internships and gain hands-on experience in the industry. The program builds on the skills and knowledge individuals have developed in the areas of operations, financial accounting, human resource management, hospitality law, revenue management and cost accounting.
